The National University of Distance Education (UNED) is a Spanish national public university, created in 1972 and administratively linked to the Ministry of Universities. UNED is characterised by offering a mixed mode of distance learning, based on new technologies and traditional systems, through the following means: virtual courses on the Internet (forums, videoconferences, webconferences, virtual whiteboard, laboratories, etc.), reference books in their field, lecturers' notes, in combination with face-to-face or virtual tutorials in the cities where it has associated centres through the AVIP system. UNED does not require a minimum grade, nor does it impose quotas or a maximum number of students per degree. UNED studies are based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System.
