Mitte (i.e. centre) is a district of Berlin, belonging to the district of the same name. It is the most central district of the city, and corresponds for the most part to its historic centre, a much sought-after area for rental accommodation in Berlin. Mitte is the central district of the city and is crossed by the river Spree; the central island is called Museum Island in the northern part and Fischerinsel in the southern part. This district contains many of the city's most famous landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Zoo and is definitely a popular area for rooms and flats to rent for students and young workers in Berlin.
